Books are my Friends

It has been a few weeks!  Halloween has come and gone.  Women's Retreat has come and gone.  I will keep practicing to get this done one the regular.

We have had some beautiful fall weather and also quite a bit of wet weather.  I finished 4 books.

I took Sourdough with me on Women's Retreat.  I was reading it for "a book about food" and it was our group's November Read. Quirky is the word I would use to describe this book.  The main character was bland but it wasn't bad and part of it took place in Alameda so that brings me back to my childhood a little bit.

Yesterday I just finished The Hate U Give.  This was for "a book published in 2017" and it is the group read for December.  I wasn't planning on reading it so soon, but I was afraid of how long the waiting list was plus I packed in a super hurry for Women's Retreat so it came a long too.  I loved this book.  I almost wanted to not like it because every body else does, but it genuinely got me hooked and reminded me of things I haven't thought about in a long time.  I would only recommend it to the right kind of people though, it has a lot of cussing and it isn't "well written" in the way of descriptions, but it is also more YA and I loved how much Starr talks about Harry Potter.  That will pretty much win me every time.

I finished The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan for "a book based on mythology".  I have wanted to read a Percy Jackson book for a long time.  This was great.  I don't know if I will have room to add another Riordan book in the future but I think he is a gifted story teller.

With the read aloud with kids, we finished Esperanza Rising which also fit the prompt "a book about an immigrant".  This was a beautiful story of hope and family.

I only have 9 more books to read to finish the challenge!
