Next Book in a Series

MOM'S READING
 
For our reading this week was a "gimme" because we do love book series around here.  I decided to read Emily Climbs by L.M. Montgomery.  I started Emily of New Moon last year so only naturally I thought it would be great to read the next one.  L.M. Montgomery certainly does have a style that is enjoyable and themes that are timeless.

HERMIONE'S READING

It is good this was an easy week because Hermione is a little behind.  She is still reading her book from last week's theme, but she had earlier this year been reading through the Big Nate series and the Mysterious Benedict Society.









ARIANA'S READING

My 3rd grader's current favorite series are Ever After High, the Rainbow Magic Fairy books, and the World According to Humphrey- at least these were all the books she was reading this week.










LUCY'S READING

Honestly I didn't have time to get Lucy any series books this week.  We read the same winter books as last week and a few other random picture books, but if I had to guess what here favorite Kindergarten picture book series are I would say the Elephant and Piggie books and Pete the Cat.







I didn't get any extra reading in this week.  It was one of those weeks where I would have given just about anything to escape into a book, but I have had to keep telling myself- "I am an adult- I have important things to do."  Maybe it sounds a little lazy and entitled of me, but my lifestyle is such that I am in a flux time.  I am in a hopeful situation that I might ask my husband that I might be able to work or volunteer out of the house so that my schedule doesn't feel so distracted and open ended.  I feel so awkward at home when my husband works from home- I haven't found a good rhythm.  Prayers appreciated if you have the time.

Popsugar Challenge 2018 Nearly Complete with Mini Reviews

I managed to read 36/40 for the regular Popsugar Challenge of 2018 and 4/10 for the advanced section.  It is okay that I didn't finish.  I am happy with what I was able to accomplish this year.  Excited for next year! A book made into a movie you have already seen: "Cheesy, fun, but completely unbiblical." True Crime: "A little hard to follow, but I learned about the old-time circus." The next book in a series you started: "Wonderful, full of the optimism of youthful dreams." A book involving a heist: "It was like watching a funny movie.  It was a hilarious ride." Nordic Noir: "So intense and a lot of coffee drinking!  I was surprised by how much I liked this book even with how disturbing it also was." A novel based on a real person: "Based on the life of King Ahaz and King Hezekiah- I liked it but it might be a little forgettable for me."

Girls Can! Crate, Raddish Fun, and What Hermione Does

Over the last month as a random present for the girls but more specifically for Lucy we subscribed to a new box called Girls Can! Crate .  I have always wanted to instill in my girls that they are more than just princesses, playing house, or waiting for a boyfriend/husband in the future. Not that there is anything specifically wrong with those things  There are just so many adventures for girls/women.  Plus I actually wanted to learn about awesome women too.  It would be educational and inspiring. Our first box came in March.  She tore into it so fast I didn't have time to take many pictures.  This box was about the first woman to climb the summit of Mount Everest- Junko Tabei. In the box was an activity booklet, A flag/banner to decorate- including the pom poms, puffy paint and felt, and a weather experiment. My daughter loves art and so she was very happy that the intro box came with scissors and package of markers.  We haven't done too much with the act

Microhistory and only a few weeks left in 2018........

This year is wrapping up quite quickly and I still have about 11 books left to read.  By this time last year I was probably freaking out and trying to fill in the prompts with more kid's books, but I have taken on the attitude this year of- "If I finish I finish, if not I am just carrying the books over to the next year."  Last week I didn't update because I was on Women's Retreat with my church.  I had a slim hope of trying to get a little reading in, but it VERY much didn't happen.  BUT the Popsugar 2019 Challenge came out over last weekend.  It took all my will power to wait till the end of the last retreat session NOT to look it over and start making my list for next year.  Since then, though, I have been mildly working on a new list/plan for next year.  I have too much actual reading to do, though, to spend a lot of time on it.  So here goes nothing...and by that I mean I finished no books this week.  I just keep adding to the pile and reading snippets
