The Great American Read: Day 10 A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

Where have you been all my life?  Oh, right, you have been in every used book store and thrift shop- TILL NOW!  These are the words I want to say as I give myself a small taste of the book A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.  I only had time to get to page 80 but I can already tell this will be a book I will really enjoy and love.

I have the audio book ready and have to admit have never been a big fan of the Brooklyn accent or of this particular era in history (1910s-20s) but this book could most certainly change my opinion of both.

Has stated above I have seen this book in MANY  used bookstore and thrift store, but never picked it up.  I don't know why I even noticed this book so many times but maybe all this time it has been calling for me to read it and I have been ignoring it!  Well not today- not today!  I am going to love on this book and I am going to snatch up this book if I ever DO see it again in a used book sale because unfortunately for me this book is from the library.

This might be the book I come back to  first if I EVER finish The Count of Monte Cristo which by the way I have taken to 2 birthday parties, 1 going away party, and 1 BBQ & counting.  I am a little over half way still enjoying it but waiting for some of the better bits I have been promised so it has been recently more slow going plus...life is getting in the way of reading- I have to go grocery shopping and laundry.. it.cuts into reading time.

Any way, I am totally psyched for when I can return to this A Tree Grows in Brooklyn which might not be for a bit but I can keep on dreaming.  Francie Nolan- I am coming back to you!
