The Jane Austen Project and more

Image
We are half way through January so it is time to bake up some delicious Raspberry Almond Scones and raise a cup of black currant tea and get cozy with our first few reads of the new year!  I just finished The Jane Austen Project by  Kathleen A. Flynn.  It was entertaining.  It had time travel.  It had sexy times.  It had a loose ending, but I found it interesting and mildly amusing though implausible even if that is what to be expected most often in time travel.  I actually weirdly related to the main character Rachel Katzman/Mary Ravenswood the most and surprisingly so because she is well educated, confident in her sexuality, and a doctor- all things I am NOT.  I think I just liked her sense of adventure and being able to remain calm during a crisis and her kindness to Tom (the climbing chimney sweep boy).  It was a little hard to tell if the characters were really fleshed out or not.  I think I was expecting more adventure and m...

2020 the Year of Jane Austen

Announcing the theme for 2020!   Jane Austen!  I wasn't sure when I was going to do this but I have wanted to do a Jane Austen year ever since I learned we share a birthday!  I found a friend willing to buddy read with me so I moved this goal to 2020.  I don't know if I can TOTALLY dedicate all my reading to Jane Austen and Jane Austen inspired books just because I love so many other books and because of what is available on Libby (the library app) but I promise to keep it as close as possible.  We will be reading at least 2 books a month either inspired by or retellings of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice .  Here is what we will be reading in January. I am so excited for this year!

I didn't have that great a year especially when I wanted so badly for things to get "normal".  But normal ended up being blood sugar testing, insulin shots for my youngest who is 8 and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes only 4 days into 2019, my husband dealing with personal stuff, me trying to be the supportive wife, and the never-ending cooking and cleaning.  2019- you were rough!  I managed to read about 35/40 for the regular challenge and 4/10 for the advanced.  A total of 39/50. Here is what I read.   A book that makes you nostalgic: "First read this book during our honeymoon in 2006! There was even an adapted show that came out this year based on this book on Amazon Prime.  It was a fun and funny reread." A book you think should be turned into a movie:   "I read this book with my middle daughter and I think it would make a great animated movie.  This is the same author of How to Train Your Dragon and I think this boo...
